Jersey? Sure.
Besides hanging out with Snooki and The Situation, Deron Williams will have a lot to love in New Jersey. Continue reading to find out why Deron should embrace his move to the Garden State.
All-Star point guard Deron Williams will be packing his bags for New Jersey. After spending his entire six-year career in a Utah Jazz uniform, Williams will look to start a new legacy as a Net.
Now will Deron like moving to New Jersey?
I know if I were to ask any other player about going to Jersey, their face would probably cringe a little. They stink, there's not many prospects there, and they are usually the punchline to everyone's jokes. And that's just the state itself. (Sorry, New Jersey.)
What about the struggling team? They had only 12 wins last season, they are comprised of a bunch of role players, and they haven't seen the light of the playoffs since the summer of '07.
But even though it doesn't seem like a favorable situation to be in now, Deron Williams will eventually embrace being a Net. And here's why:
1. He will be the face of the franchise.
Jason Kidd couldn't do it, Carmelo Anthony didn't want it, and now Deron Williams can have it. He can easily become the marquee player of the Nets franchise.
The team hasn't had a superstar since they traded Vince Carter in 2009. (And to call Vince Carter a superstar in the latter part of his career is a bit of a stretch.)
But now Williams has the chance to headline this team. As one of the league's guards, he can lead a young team back into the relevant world of basketball.
And with the move to Brooklyn coming very soon, Williams will become the face of this franchise by default.
2. There's nothing for him in Utah anymore.
Deron Williams made a great career for himself in Utah. He was a two-time All-Star, a two-time second team member, and he established himself as one of the best players in the entire NBA. And with the exception of his rookie season, Deron Williams led the Utah Jazz to the playoffs every year.
But with Carlos Boozer leaving the team and longtime head coach Jerry Sloan's resignation, Utah has nothing left to offer. They are barely holding on to the eighth seed in the Western Conference and it is evident that they have less talent than years past. With or without Williams, the Jazz are not winning championships anytime soon and may not even be a playoff team anymore.
3. Help is on the way.
The summer of 2010 was very disappointing to many teams, including the New Jersey Nets. They weren't able to reel in LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, or Amar'e Stoudemire and were stuck with what they already had.
But the Nets still do have all that cleared up cap space from 2010. They may not have been able to sign a star last summer, but will have the resources to do so this summer and the next. With a boatload of cap space available, the Nets will have ample opportunities to sign the likes of David West, Kevin Love, Zach Randolph, and Jamal Crawford within the next two offseasons.
Plus, the trade deadline isn't over yet. The Nets are still believed to be heavily engaged in further trade talks.
4. The Nets won't be in Jersey that much longer.
Just suck it up for a season and a half, Deron. You'll be out of New Jersey and into Brooklyn very soon.
