This Day in NBA History: February 5th

1960:
The Celtics' Bill Russell pulls down an NBA record 51 rebounds in a 124-100 win over the Syracuse Nationals. It was the first time in NBA history in which a player recorded over 50 rebounds. (Wilt Chamberlain would later break Russell's record by pulling down 55 boards against the Celtics nine months later.)

1972:
Robert Douglas becomes the first African-American inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Douglas was the founder of the New York Rens.

1989:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar becomes the first NBA player to record 38,000 career points.
