No Sleep 'til Brooklyn

Carmelo Anthony should buy into the Nets' relentless pursuit for him. Keep up after the jump to find out why.

The newly dubbed 'MeloDrama' will soon be coming to an end...at least for the rest of this season. With the NBA's trade deadline creeping around the corner on February 24th, Denver will either keep or trade Carmelo Anthony.

We've heard the likes of the Knicks, Rockets, Mavericks, and Lakers inquiring on Anthony's services. However, the most likely team to land 'Melo has re-entered the sweepstakes. That's right, the New Jersey Nets.

Recent reports have the Nets throwing their hat back into the race. They have the desire to trade, they have the assets to trade, and they have the perfect accommodations for Carmelo.

The only thing left that is still puzzling is Anthony's skepticism about joining the Nets. The future Brooklyn franchise is by far the bes team for 'Melo to join. Here's why:

1. Carmelo wants to play in New York. Brooklyn is in New York.
Not only is Brooklyn in New York, but Brooklyn is Carmelo's hometown. This is why I am not fully understanding 'Melo when he says he prefers the Knicks.

I understand he wants to play in New York because that's where he's from. But Brooklyn is really where he is from. It was where he was born. The entire premise of displaying hometown pride is to represent your actual borough. Brooklyn is his borough.

2. The Nets are dedicated to building a successful franchise.
Team owners Mikhali Prokohov and Sean "Jay-Z" Carter are very savvy businessmen. They have made lives off of producing and marketing their respective brands. Prokohov is one of the richest men in the world and Jay-Z is an American entertainment icon. These guys know how to get to the top and their recent moves have displayed just that.

It started with the takeover by the new ownership. They realized New Jersey was not the right city to host a struggling team and decided to rejuvenate the franchise by announcing a future move to Brooklyn. Although Brooklyn has not held a franchise since 1957 with the Dodgers, it will prove to be a prime location for the move. The game of basketball is a lifestyle in New York and Brooklyn is not any different.

Then it progressed with the hands-on involvement with Jay-Z. He represented his team in the 2008 NBA Lottery drawing, he became a vital piece in the 2010 free agent pitch by the Nets, and has continued to attend numerous games to further promote his product.

And their most recent move, the hiring of Avery Johnson, has reinforced their desire to win. Prior to Johnson's stint with the Nets, he compiled a record of 194-70 in four seasons with Dallas. He has also has the Nets at 17 wins going into the All-Star break. The Nets had all of 12 wins the entire 2009-2010 season. Johnson is a great basketball mind and can effectively reach his players in which most coaches in the NBA cannot.

3. The Knicks already have their #1 guy.
It really wouldn't make sense for 'Melo to try to take the helm in New York because Amar'e Stoudemire already has it. And guess what, he's not letting it go. Stoudemire left Phoenix to become the face of New York basketball.

And Knicks fans are absolutely in love with Stoudemire. He is the face of a huge turnaround by a top franchise and the fans in New York have recgonized that. Knickerbocker fans are bowing at the feet of Amar'e, trusting him to be the leader of a new wave of basketball in the Big Apple. If Carmelo lands there, he'll only be the Robin to Stoudemire's Batman.

4. 'Melo can be the face of an entire franchise.
Unfortunately for Denver fans, Anthony's chances of becoming the cornerstone of the Nuggets franchise will soon come to an end. He was well on his way to succeeding Alex English as the greatest Denver Nugget of all-time. But if he isn't going to be there, he won't land a spot in Denver immortality.

But now he has the opportunity to do it with the Nets when they pick up for Brooklyn. It will be a new team in a new city, which gives 'Melo the chance to be the latest face on the Mt. Rushmore of Brooklyn sports. (He would join the likes of Jackie Robinson, Branch Rickey, Pee Wee Reese, and Gil Hodges.)

5. He will be closer to his new wife, La La Vazquez.
Isn't this how it all started?
