'Melo to Knicks?

There is a new development in the Carmelo Anthony saga. Now it involves the Knicks and Timberwolves. Read after the jump to find out the rumored deal.
Word is the Knicks have engaged in talks with the Denver Nuggets about their soon-to-be free agent superstar, Carmelo Anthony. The Timberwolves are also linked as the third party. Here is the proposed deal:

New York gets: Carmelo Anthony

Denver gets: 1st round pick (from Minnesota), Corey Brewer, Wilson Chandler

Minnesota gets: Anthony Randolph, Eddy Curry

If this is the best Denver could do, it looks like they really dropped the ball. Instead of getting one first- rounder and two decent players, they could have received 2 first-rounders, Devin Harris, and Derrick Favors from New Jersey. Devin Harris is an All-Star point guard and Derrick Favors was this year's 2nd overall pick.

This deal also doesn't seem to make much sense for the Knicks. Since Carmelo has made it clear he wants to go to the Knicks, they could be patient and sign him as a free agent this summer. They wouldn't have to give up promising talents Wilson Chandler and Anthony Randolph. The only way this trade would seem smart for New York is the dumping of Eddy Curry's fat contract.
